Lunch in Monkstown!

As you know I am an avid brunch fan but I am not one to turn down eating out so we headed for lunch instead. Last Saturday the sun was shining in Dublin and although I love the city I really love the suburbs and Monkstown is one of my favourite parts of Dublin. The village itself is so quaint and is the perfect place for a potter around. We headed to Avoca's Salt Cafe for a bit of grub.

As soon as you walk in there is a buzz, ladies nattering away over coffee and families enjoying some time out. You can't help but eye up the treats they have on offer before you have even taken your seat.

We got two dishes to share, they are big portions so prepare yourselves in advance for a serious feed. The half roast chicken comes out on a board and you carve it yourself, this is the style of cooking I like, Jamie Oliver rustic type vibe and packed full of flavour. The chicken was cooked perfectly and far from being dry.

We also went for the pan-fried gambas with chorizo and spinach. If this doesn't give you a yearning for a holiday to Spain I don't know what will.

After we finished our meal we had a wander around the Avoca shop and butchers. It really is a very upmarket supermarket and unlikely to be somewhere you go for your weekly shop, but definitely somewhere to pop into if you are having a nice night in and are looking for some nice produce to treat yourselves.

Have a great week.
