Frills & Pearls

Happy weekend everyone! We are currently on route to Cambridge on a little weekend away. I am so excited to see somewhere new and explore this cute spot with C.  It is meant to be a gorgeous spot, fingers crossed the weather is nice. Be sure to follow along on Instastories to see what we get up to. Now for todays post, I am sharing a new look with a few of my current favourites.
There is no escaping the frill trend and I am not going to be complaining about it. Adding a frill can bring a basic top / shirt to another level. I needed to invest in a few Spring tops and this was one of them.

Botanical Dress

After reviewing all of my recent posts I could see my jean obsession was a little out of control, I also couldn't help but get excited with this warmer weather, hence you are seeing me in a dress. A botanical maxi dress at that. This is the perfect dress for a picnic or Summer garden party.
I wanted to get my hands on a few dresses that were pretty but still doable for our mixed Irish weather. This little capped sleeve maxi dress is not really something I would usually go for but I am loving little tea dresses at the minute and I liked that it was longer than most of the other dresses I have seen. For me this is super girly but I am liking it for a change.

New Brunch Spot - Pot Bellied Pig

You know me and my love for brunch and when a new spot opens I have to go and try it out. Pot Bellied Pig opened last Tuesday so we checked it out over the weekend. My first impressions were that the staff were very friendly and the interiors were pretty quirky. It is a small narrow space but they have been clever with it, with intimate booths, blush pink textiles  and banana leaf wallpaper it is sure to be an Instagram hit.

Blue Stripe Shirt

I am still on a high from the weekend, we celebrated St. Patricks a day later as we were down the country on Friday. We had tickets to the rugby match on Saturday and it is by far one of the best matches I have been to, the atmosphere was electric and what a way to celebrate the Irish, particularly this weekend. Yesterday the head was a little tender but that is to be expected!
Anyway, enough about that, lets talk about this AMAZING shirt I picked up during the week. I am so delighted that stripes are as in this year as they were last year. Then again a striped shirt is never not on trend in my opinion.

My Current Shoe Crush

Is anyone else so happy with this weather,  it makes such a difference to wake up to blue skies and sunshine. It means the boots can nearly be packed away and it is time to slip on those loafers - did you like what I did there! I have a serious shoe crush on slip ons and I have pulled together my favourite pairs for you guys to peruse.

Pink Blazer

It was clear from all of the Spring Summer shows back in September that Pink was back with a bang, we saw it had a strong presence from runways in New York right through to Milan. Now we can see it has made its way to the high street as well as being a firm favourite of the designer houses.

Olive Green!

This olive green colour is one I have had a love affair with now for quite some time, and really although I like this outfit it still feels quite Wintery to me and I am dreaming about wearing this shirt with white jeans and tan wedges over the Summer months, but I was dying to wear it so I wore it for dinner the other night with one of my new pairs of jeans.

Having Perspective & Appreciating The Little Things!

The word Perspective is one that has been top of mind for me for the last few days, when something unexpected happens it puts everything in perspective and honestly this is so true. The way we look at everything in our lives and being part of the every day rat race means a lot of the time we can be running around and not think we have the time to review what is going on in our lives. What I have come to realise is that it is good to stop, take stock of what is going on and most importantly take a breather. Having a positive outlook on life and appreciating all of the little things is so important. Yesterday I read a quote that said "Make today so amazing, it makes yesterday jealous" for me it is all about living in the moment, taking chances, experiencing new things and loving life and all it has to offer.
We have to embrace the ups and the downs; which I appreciate is sometimes easier said than done but to recognise the good you have to have known the bad.We all have pressures on us, some take these on more heavily than others but I am a firm believer in the saying if it isn't for you it will pass you and something doesn't come into your life unless you have the strength to deal with it. There are amazing things happening each day and a good laugh is one thing I love, tears of laughter is one of the best feelings in the world and although we almost always associate crying as a negative thing it can be in fact one of the best experiences.
I have shared some ways in which help me get perspective below.

1.Be in Good Company
Surround yourself with like minded people who you can support and you know will support you back.

2. Spend Time Doing Something You Love
I love a good sunset and looking back on photos from Vietnam these are some of my favourites. For me the beach is a sanctuary and going for a walk on the beach is one of my favourite things to do to clear my head.

3. Take A Birds Eye View
You need to take a step back and review everything, this is an action I always try and take as it helps you see the bigger picture.

4. Stay Healthy
This is seriously underrated I know I feel amazing after the gym and eating healthy has such a positive effect on my head and overall wellbeing that it needs to be top of mind for everyone.

5. Get Away
This is not to be confused with running away or having your head in the sand, this is taking the time to go to your little haven and really switching off, we all have that one place.

Have the best Wednesday lovelies and Remember....enjoy every minute!

The Importance of Taking Time for Yourself!

For me I am finding my life is choc a bloc and it's only getting busier which is great on so many levels but trying to fit in work, the blog, friends, family and C is a balance I am trying to perfect and so far it seems to be working out quite well. Although, reflecting on it I always seem to be running from one thing to the next and trying to squeeze everything & everyone in. I suppose spending time with the most important people in my life is top of my agenda so I make it happen but sometimes it doesn't leave much time for "me time".
For me I love being busy but I equally like to take a bit of time to myself and I have found the gym is the only place I really switch off, it is the only place I am only focusing on survive the drill to get to the next circuit and nothing else is top of mind, honestly I think it is what is keeping my head straight and also I feel amazing after it. Myself and C go to the gym together, couples who train together stay together and all of that but for me I need him to push me so he is the one who drags me out of the bed for our 6.30am class twice a week. I do my own thing the other day of the week and love the mix and have found I am definitely feeling better in myself for going.
I do believe everyone needs to take that little bit of time and treat yourself or yo self, whether that's getting a blow dry, watching your favourite programme, going for a walk or lighting the candles and chilling with a glass of vino in hand. Taking that bit of time out is what we all need for ourselves. I do plan on squeezing that in over this weekend but I do have a fun weekend lined up so balance is key.

What do you guys do for your "me time"?

Have a fab weekend?

My Night Time Skincare Routine

I have been in a good routine with my skincare for quite a while now, my Mum was one to look after her skin and she it instilled it in all of us. She was a huge fan of Guinot so that's where I know the brand from. Even after a right few drinks I can usually be found standing / slumped in front of the sink in the bathroom cleaning my face. Talking to a lot of my friends they don't have a skincare routine or else they stick with something for a while and then revert to the easy option such as wipes so I said I would share what I do. I cannot stress how important it is to look after your skin. I suppose it is like anything, you need to get into a rythmn you are comfortable with and know that its working for you and its easy to continue it.I am a fan of changing up what I use every now and then product wise but I have a few brand favourites such as Revision Skincare , Guinot and Lancome. I use Revision day cream EVERY, SINGLE DAY - it has factor 50spf and is the ideal coverage. Over the last two months I have been religiously using these products and finding that they are working a treat. This Lancome Absolue Nuit cream is divine, I have noticed my skin being nourished but it doesn't feel too heavy.
The Guinot cleanser and toner is refreshing and light, followed by the eye cream which always leaves my eyes feeling invigorated. The Lancome cream is so rich and luxurious, it feels like a real treat with every application. It is on the pricey side but I do use it sparingly.

Steps to Follow

  • Cleanse and Tone
  • Apply Eye cream (this is one of my trouble areas so I invest in a good cream, you only use a small rice grain sized amount for each use so you do get a long time out of it)
  • Apply Face cream (not forgetting your neck)
  • Neck cream (advised starting for late 20s to early 30s)
  • Vaseline - My lips are always dry and this is the only thing that works

I love taking the time at night to do this and I also try to use a mask on my skin once a week.
